'Chadwick' Author Cummings Speaks at SU March 11

SALISBURY, MD---The Eastern Shore Children’s Literature Series continues with author Priscilla Cummings 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in room 153 of Salisbury University’s Teacher Education and Technology Center.

Cummings’ Chadwick the Crab series, about a blue crab from Maryland, is well known in the mid-Atlantic. An Annapolis resident, she grew up on a dairy farm in western Massachusetts. She said she always loved to write, and drew inspiration for her stories from the animals she was surrounded by. “Often, I illustrated those stories and made them into little books. Writing was something I did for fun.”

After writing several children’s books, with titles including Oswald and the Timberdoodles, Toulouse: The Story of a Canada Goose and the Chadwick series, Cummings began publishing novels that focused on an older audience. One of her most notable is Red Kayak, for which she won the American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults designation in 2006. Other books include Chesapeake Rainbow, Autumn Journey and What Mr. Mattero Did.

Cummings’ talk is followed by a reception and book signing at 6 p.m. in room 226 of the TETC. Sponsored by the Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies, the event is free and the public is invited.
