CPD Hosts Seminar on Human Resources Law Updates

SALISBURY, MD---Need to keep abreast of employment laws affecting human resources management? Salisbury University hosts a seminar on employment law updates 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, in the Worcester Room of the Commons. “The expert knowledge presented in this conference is timely and critical because it provides up-to-date information for employers,” says Jeri Hurley, Development Program Specialist for SU’s Center for Professional Development. “The area of employment law is constantly changing and the updated laws must be followed by employers. Business owners and Human Resource professionals must know and practice current laws and updates to decrease the scrutiny companies receive by employees who claim employers have violated the law.” Traci L. Burch, Esq., and Arthur M. Brewer, Esq., of the Shawe and Rosenthal law firm head the seminar. Topics include review and updates on the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act), wage and hour classification issues, creating a respectful workplace culture and use and abuse of workplace technology. She has advised clients with regard to collective bargaining and contract administration issues and has defended clients in discrimination cases, as well as wrongful discharge and employment tort litigation. Arthur Brewer has extensive experience in all aspect of labor law, with a particular emphasis on the litigation of labor disputes. He serves as the chief negotiator for the Delmarva Poultry Association in its collective bargaining negotiations with the Teamsters Union and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
