Brock Keynotes SU African-American History Month Celebration Tuesday, February 10
SALISBURY, MD---In 2010, Roslyn Brock became the youngest chair of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s national board of directors.
On Tuesday, February 10, she keynotes Salisbury University’s 2015 African-American History Month celebration. Her presentation, “Courage Will Not Skip This Generation,” is 7 p.m. in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.
Brock, vice president of advocacy and government relations for Bon Secours Health System, Inc., in Marriottsville, MD, is the fourth woman to hold the national chair’s position. A Diamond Life Member of the NAACP, she has been involved with the organization since 1987, joining as a freshman at Virginia Union University.
As vice chair of the NAACP Board Health Committee in 1988, her advocacy for quality, accessible and affordable health care for vulnerable communities resulted in the national board’s mandate of a health committee for all units.
In 2012, Brock initiated and led the national board’s historic policy decision to support marriage equality and to implement an HIV education imperative in African-American churches. As a grant writer, she also has secured millions of dollars in philanthropic support for the NAACP and chaired its National Convention Planning Committee from 1999-2010.
Beyond the NAACP, Brock is a member of The George Washington University Board of Trustees, Kellogg School of Management Global Advisory Board, American Public Health Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, among other organizations.
The George Washington University has honored Brock with its Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. Essence magazine has named her among the “40 Fierce and Fabulous Women Who Are Changing the World” and Black Entertainment Television (BET) lauded her during its inaugural Black Girls Rock broadcast. In addition, she earned the 2010 National Urban League Women of Power Award.
