Bridges to the World International Film Series at SU February 6-March 6.

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University takes movie lovers around the globe to such locales as Colombia, Korea, Hungary, Egypt and Mexico during the ninth annual Bridges to the World International Film Series, Mondays from February 6-March 6.

All are introduced and screened at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall, followed by a discussion.

The series begins February 6 with the 2009 Colombian film The Wind Journeys. The movie follows Ignacio, who spent most of his life traveling and playing his accordion, a legendary instrument said to have belonged to the devil. When his wife dies, he vows never to play the accursed accordion again, embarking on a journey to return it to its rightful owner.

Others include:

•    February 13 – The Beauty Inside (Korea, 2015): In this surprise sleeper hit of the Cannes Film Festival, Woo-jin wakes up in a different body every morning. His age, gender and nationality may change, but the one constant in his life is E-soo, the woman he loves.

•    February 20 – Son of Saul (Hungary, 2015): Saul is a Hungarian Jewish prisoner forced to assist the Nazis at the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944. When he discovers the body of a boy he takes for his son, he decides to carry out an impossible task: save the child’s body, find a rabbi to recite the mourner’s Kaddish and give the boy a proper burial.

•    February 27 – Factory Girl (Egypt, 2013): In this romantic drama, 21-year-old Hiam, who comes from a poor home and works in a factory, falls in love and is faced by the community’s rigidity toward her feelings.

•    March 6 – Vuelve a la vida (Back to Life) (Mexico, 2010): How does a poor Mexican scuba diver end up marrying a top American model? This film shares the backstory of the Martinez-Sidney family and its relationship to a legendary 1970s shark hunt.

All films are shown in their native languages with English subtitles.

SU joins World Artists Experiences, Inc. and Maryland’s Office of the Secretary of State International Division in presenting the series. Salisbury is one of five chosen screening locations in Maryland, including Annapolis, California, Frostburg and Towson.

Films are sponsored by the embassy of each country. Admission is free and the public is invited.
