Blue Crab Subject of April 19 Lecture"  

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Dirk Weilhrauch from Lake Forest (IL) College presents “Active Ammonia Excretion in Crabs: The Whole Story” on Thursday, April 19, at 4 p.m. in Salisbury State University’s Devilbiss Hall Auditorium (Room 149).  Sponsored by the departments of  Biology and Chemistry in the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology at SSU, Weilhrauch’s presentation focuses on how crabs have adapted to excrete toxic molecules such as nitrogenous wastes, ammonia and urea.

The presentation is part of a Merck Pharmaceutical and American Association for the Advancement of Science three-year research grant totaling $60,000 awarded to the SSU departments of Biology and Chemistry to study the biochemical basis of molting in the blue crab.
