Blue Crab Changes Subject of October 19 Lecture

SALISBURY, MD -- Salisbury State University’s departments of Biology and Chemistry in the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology present Dr. Robert Roer, the inaugural speaker in the Merck/AAAS Seminar Series, on Thursday, October 19, at 4 p.m. in SSU’s Devilbiss Hall Room 149. Free and open to the public, the title of Roer’s presentation is "Molting and Mineralization in the Blue Crab." A professor of biological sciences at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Roer is considered a leading internationally recognized expert in the field of crustacean molting.

The seminar series was created through a joint three-year grant of $20,000 received from Merck and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to study the biochemical basis of molting in the blue crab. Merck is one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. AAAS is the publisher of the journal Science.
