BEACON Presents Cultural Competency Workshop

SALISBURY, MD---Bienvenidos a Delmarva, an initiative of the Business, Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) of Salisbury University's Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, presents a Cultural Competency workshop from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 21 in the Worcester Room at the Commons.

The workshop is an enhanced version of the sold-out workshop "Community, Culture and Care," held in January. Continuing education units are offered.

"The number and diversity of our region’s immigrant community is increasing almost exponentially.  The October 21 workshop will provide another opportunity for regional service providers to enhance their cultural competency skills in serving this population," said Dr. Memo Diriker, director of BEACON.

Internationally known author Dr. Jennie A. McLaurin leads the workshop. She has written several publications on migrant health and cultural competency. She has also developed community programs to address school readiness and environmental safety.

The workshop is made possible through a grant from the Maryland Chapter of the March of Dimes and organized in partnership with the Eastern Shore Regional Library, the Migrant Clinicians Network, and the Center for Professional Development at Salisbury University.

Pre-registration is required. The fee is $90 for those pursuing continuing education units, $25 for the general public. Members of the public attending may request a scholarship to cover the $25 fee. Lunch is included.
