African Group Kenge Kenge Performs at SU September 9

SALISBURY, MD---Traditional African music comes to Salisbury University 7 p.m. Thursday, September 9, in Red Square.

The world music band Kenge Kenge presents “African Living Traditions-Acoustic Roots of Kenyan Benga.” The group’s members consider themselves guardians and masters of an ancient, but living, tradition. They embrace Kenya’s Luo musical roots, continuing its evolution from hand-made instruments of the past to the popular guitar-based benga.

Amazon.com calls the group’s music "hypnotic, earthy and exhilarating." The Utne Reader says Kenge Kenge is “downright exuberant.”

Sponsored by the Office of Cultural Affairs, Embassy of Kenya and World Artists Experiences Inc., admission is free and the public is invited. For information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU web site at www.salisbury.edu.
