SU Announces Johnson as Associate Vice President of Student Affairs

SALISBURY, MD---With a higher education background spanning more than a quarter-century, Dr. Deirdra Johnson has been appointed as Salisbury University’s next associate vice president of student affairs.

Johnson comes to SU from Wor-Wic Community College, where she recently served as dean of enrollment management and student services.

“With passion and knowledge, Deirdra has assisted in developing and implementing several successful student retention initiatives at Wor-Wic,” said Dr. Dane Foust, SU vice president of student affairs. “We are excited to welcome her to SU and look forward to working with her as we strengthen existing initiatives and develop new programs to best serve our students.”

“I am honored and excited to serve on the Salisbury University senior student affairs leadership team,” said Johnson. “I look forward to engaging with the students and campus community in building and maintaining the school’s exemplary reputation.”

At Wor-Wic, Johnson also has served as senior director of student development, and director of retention and student success. She was instrumental in the creation of the college’s Black Student Association and Black Male Initiative program, and is passionate about promoting the value of a college education to underrepresented populations.

Beyond her work in student affairs, Johnson volunteers at community events throughout the Salisbury area. She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; chair of the Shore Leadership advisory board; and recording secretary for Faith Over Fear Economic Empowerment, Inc.

Johnson earned her Ph.D. in organizational leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She also holds an M.A. in mass communications from Southern University and a B.A. in mass communications from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
