SU Hosts Fackenthal Carillon Performance August 7

Jim FackenthalSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s summer carillon concert series continues with a performance by Dr. Jim Fackenthal 3 p.m. Saturday, August 7, at the Brown and Church Carillon in the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons.

His performance recognizes carillonneurs past and present, celebrating the 300-year anniversary of Matthais van den Gheyn’s birth. The program includes Gheyn’s “Suite I pour le Clavecin,” Ennis Fruhauf’s “Jubilate for Carillon,” Frank DellaPenna’s “Three Pieces” and a selection of Scottish folk melodies.

A cancer researcher and associate professor of biological sciences at Benedictine University, Fackenthal began carillon studies at the University of Rochester in the mid-1980s and passed the carillonneur’s exam in Ottawa in 1986. He performs through the U.S. and serves as carillonneur at St. Chrysostom’s Church in Chicago.

Sponsored by the Music, Theatre and Dance Department, admission to his concert is free and the public is invited.

Seating will be on Red Square, with overflow seating available on Fulton Hall Lawn. Those attending should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Face masks are not required for outdoor areas, but concertgoers should observe appropriate physical distancing.
