Tropical Storm Update: SU Employees Not on Campus Should Remain Off Campus Until August 5
Tuesday, August 4, 1:30 p.m.
SALISBURY, MD---A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Wicomico County and surrounding areas until 10 p.m. A coastal flood warning remains in effect until 2 a.m. Wednesday, August 5. All other watches and warnings have been canceled at this time.
The cleanup of debris on campus, including fallen trees and tree limbs, continues this afternoon. Salisbury University employees scheduled or planning to work on campus today who are not yet on campus should remain off campus until Wednesday, August 5. Those who are on campus should use caution and avoid cleanup areas unless assigned to those locations.
SU remains open, and employees who are teleworking are encouraged to continue to do so as conditions permit.
The Wicomico County Department of Emergency Services expects most tropical storm impacts to move out of the area by 4 p.m. Winds up to 40 mph are predicted until then and may continue to uproot trees from water-logged soil. Ongoing electrical outages remain possible due to downed power lines caused by fallen trees. An additional inch of rainfall also is possible, which may cause localized flooding.
Drivers should remain alert for roadway flooding, fallen trees and other debris on roadways, as well as fallen or displaced road signs.

Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to bring 3-6 inches of rain to the region, potentially heavy at times, with 40- to 50-mph winds and gusts up to 65 mph.

SALISBURY, MD---The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tropical storm warning for Wicomico County and surrounding areas until 10 p.m. Tuesday, August 4.
Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to the region beginning around 3 p.m. Monday, August 3, progressing to full tropical storm conditions by late Monday evening into Tuesday morning. This includes 3-6 inches of rain, potentially heavy at times, with 40- to 50-mph winds and gusts up to 65 mph.
A flash flood watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday. In addition, the NWS has issued a coastal flood watch until 2 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, with 1 to 2 feet of flooding possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
NWS officials advise securing lightweight object, such as patio furniture and outdoor decorative items, which may become dangerous projectiles in the storm. Damage to roofing, siding, awnings, carports and sheds is possible, as are widespread power and communications outages.
Drivers are encouraged to remain alert for fallen trees and other debris on roadways, as well as fallen or displaced road signs.
