Four women's headshotsSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University is celebrating the following student successes:

Senior Lauren DeLong of Laurel, MD, president of SU’s American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) student chapter, recently was featured in the organization’s national magazine, ASBMB Today.

She discussed how she began her SU experience as a high school student, reaching out to ask professors about their research. Once enrolled, she became involved in undergraduate research. Upon graduating, she hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in molecular biology and molecular genetics, aspiring to become a professor.

Exercise science majors Meghan Shepherd (sophomore) and Morgan Vance (junior) recently shared their research at the American College of Sports Medicine Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s annual meeting in Harrisburg, PA. Shepherd, a sophomore from Crofton, MD, presented “The Influences of Creatine Supplementation on Arterial Stiffness.” Vance, a junior from Milford, DE, presented "Training and the Effects on Arterial Stiffness with Creatine.”

SU senior social work and political science major Eleanor Brown of Ijamsville, MD, won the Most Outstanding Student Poster award at the National Association of Social Workers – Maryland Chapter (NASW-MD) Student Conference.

Brown’s SU Honors College thesis, with mentorship from Dr. Jennifer Jewell, chair of the M.S.W. program, culminated in the poster “Double Jeopardy: Employment Discrimination Experienced by Returning Citizens,” addressing issues faced by previously incarcerated individuals on the Lower Eastern Shore.

In all, some 20 students from SU’s School of Social Work in the College of Health and Human Services attended the conference.

As one of the school’s undergraduate representatives for NASW-MD, Brown also recruited students to participate in the organization’s 22nd annual Legislative Education and Advocacy Day in Annapolis. Some 79 SU B.A.S.W. and M.S.W. students attended.

Brown joined two other SU students — Rachael Okun of California, MD, and Bianca Ruslander of Mechanicsville, MD — in representing the School of Social Work before the Maryland General Assembly.
