CELL 'SU on the Road' Series Offers Spring Bus and Boat Trips

SU on the RoadSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Center for Extended and Lifelong Learning offers educational experiences throughout the Eastern Shore and beyond through its “SU on the Road” series of bus and boat trips.

Upcoming opportunities this semester include:

Wednesday, March 13: American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore – Participants have the chance to take a self-guided tour of America’s official museum and education center for intuitive, self-taught artistry and enjoy other sites on their own at the Inner Harbor. The bus leaves SU at 7:30 a.m., returning at 7 p.m. Cost: $60.

Tuesday, April 2: National Mall, Washington, D.C. – This “on-your-own” bus trip offers participants a chance to visit the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian Institution museums and other national landmarks. The bus leaves SU at 7:30 a.m., returning at 7 p.m. Cost: $50.

Friday, May 3: Smith Island, MD, boat and walking tour – Award-winning environmental writer and SU environmental studies professor of practice Tom Horton leads this event, including an opportunity to visit with the community’s residents, learn the history of Smith Island cake and discuss the island’s environmental and cultural impact. The boat leaves the Crisfield, MD, City Dock at 9 a.m., returning at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $180, including the ferry, lunch and an autographed copy of Horton’s critically acclaimed book An Island Out of Time: A Memoir of Smith Island in the Chesapeake.

Wednesday, June 12: Mount Vernon by Boat, Alexandria, VA – This bus trip takes participants to the National Harbor to board the riverboat Miss Christian for a narrated ride down the Potomac River. Once at Mt. Vernon, participants may take a self-guided tour of George Washington’s home and gardens before returning by boat to the harbor. The bus leaves SU at 7:30 a.m., returning at 7 p.m. Cost: $90.

In addition to SU, a new Easton, MD, pickup and drop-off location is available to for the excursions to the American Visionary Art Museum, National Mall and Mt. Vernon. Departure time is an hour after the SU pickup, and return time is one hour before. Participants should note their preferred pickup and drop-off location when registering.
