SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University Veterans Affairs Coordinator Shannon Hardester was among some 100 veterans who joined Maryland Governor Larry Hogan in Annapolis to proclaim 2019 as “The Year of the Veteran.”

“The idea is to bring awareness to the veteran community throughout the state,” said Hardester, who served 12 years in the U.S. Coast Guard and now assists other veterans through SU’s Registrar’s Office.

During the ceremony, Hogan recognized Maryland’s 380,000 veterans for their service.

Hardester said SU has some 300 students throughout its locations who are veterans, active duty or reserve duty members. About 180 of them use Veterans Affairs education benefits to help with tuition and fee costs, she added.
