CandleSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University hosts “An Interfaith Vigil in Support of the Pittsburgh Tree of Life of Congregation” on Sunday, November 4.

An academic discussion, “Anti-Semitism: Past and Present,” follows on Monday, November 5.

Held in Red Square, the vigil will begin at 5:30 p.m. with SU’s Brown and Church Carillon tolling once for each fatality in the recent Pittsburgh synagogue shooting — the largest attack on worshiping Jews in U.S. history, according to the American Jewish Archives.

Following a welcome by Drs. Maarten Pereboom, dean of SU’s Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, and introductions by Adam Hoffman, chair of the Political Science Department, students will read the names of the victims.

The November 5 discussion begins at 7 p.m. in the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall. Panelists include faculty experts from across the University. Both events are sponsored by the President’s Office; the Provost’s Office; the Office of Institutional Equity, Fair Practices, Diversity and Inclusion; Student Affairs Office; Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts; and Samuel W. and Marilyn C. Seidel School of Education. The public is invited.
