Policies and Procedures

These policies and procedures are regarding the use of the Nabb Research Center located on the 4th floor of the Guerrieri Academic Commons.

Guidelines

Who can use the Nabb Research Center?
- Use of the Nabb Research Center is free to the public, and to all Salisbury University faculty, students and staff.
- Anyone may support the Center by becoming a member or by making a donation.
Patrons are required to:
- Sign visitors’ log.
- Leave backpacks, briefcases, purses, bags, books and outer clothing in the lockers provided.
- Bring only pencils (no pens) and paper for note-taking into the Research Room (laptop computers, cell phones with volume down and cameras are permitted).
- Food and drink are not permitted in the Carey Family Research Room.
While researching:
- Check with receptionist or research assistant for assistance in locating materials, loading microfilm, computer access and using the database to search collections.
- Do not re-shelve books or microfilm. They should be placed on a bookcart near bookshelves.
- Do not refile vertical file folders.
- While conversation is allowed, please be considerate of other patrons by keeping voices low.
Requesting archival materials:
- Requests for archival materials may be made prior to your arrival through the Finding Aid Portal. In your request, please include: which boxes you would like to look at, the dates you would like to view the materials at the Nabb Center, and any other information that may be helpful to staff. Requests through the Portal are for in-person research and are not digital reproduction requests.
- Please complete and sign an archival material request form to request archival materials upon arrival at the Nabb Center.
- Boxes containing archival items will remain at the front desk. You will be given one folder at a time. Please handle archival items carefully. You may be required to wear gloves when handling some items.
- Some archival items may be too delicate or too large to be scanned or photocopied. Ask at front desk for assistance before trying to copy any archival items. Cell phone pictures are permitted.
- Return archival materials to the front desk when finished.

The Nabb Research Center cannot perform pro bono research of any kind due to staffing limitations. All research performed at the request of patrons, organizations or other entities is carried out based on availability of staff and will incur fees. See 'Research by Mail' and 'Research Fee Schedule' under Distance Research.

Copyright and fair use standards must be followed on any published materials. Obtaining copyright permissions are the responsibility of the user.

Proper crediting of the Nabb Research Center must be included in all publications, works or exhibits arising from research activities using material within its collection. Collections should be cited as stated in the appropriate finding aid. In the event that a finding aid is not available credit lines should be cited as Collection Name, Collection Type.
