Information Literacy Partner of the Month
November/December 2021
Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Nyland of the Department of Biological Sciences, who is the SU Libraries’ Information Literacy Partner of the Month for November-December!
In nominating Dr. Nyland, Susan Brazer, Science Librarian, wrote:
Jennifer Nyland decided that she had such success with the level of information literacy interaction between the library and her HONR 111 class last year that she would like to kick things up a notch and add similar components to the Biology 210 and 211 courses. As such, the students in those two classes now have an online orientation to the library and all work to complete an interactive customized tutorial related to their course-specific needs. These two classes are taught by multiple faculty members and hundreds of students take them every year, so this was no small undertaking on her part!
It is for this willingness to creatively work with librarians to help students engage with information sources that we have chosen Dr. Nyland as our IL Partner of the Month for November-December. And you, too, could be the SU Libraries’ IL Partner of the Month some time—if you partner with us!
In addition to recognizing Dr. Nyland on the SU Libraries’ website and social media, we also will purchase a book in a field of her choice to be added to the Libraries’ collection in her honor.
