Bio

Dr. Teresa Niblett is an Assistant Professor of Nursing with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Executive Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a proud Salisbury University alumna, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2000. Her expertise includes acute care nursing, leadership, performance improvement, informatics, governance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Dr. Niblett is committed to advancing healthcare systems and improving patient outcomes through innovative, collaborative, and data-driven approaches that promote holistic wellness.

Research Interests

My research interests focus on holistic wellness and the behaviors and practices that promote population health and longevity. These interests are informed by prior research examining end-of-life decision-making, including honoring patients’ wishes, factors influencing place of death, and the impact of community paramedicine programs on cost of care. Building on this foundation, I aim to explore how patient-centered, system-level, and behavioral approaches can enhance quality of life and long-term health outcomes.
Teaching Philosophy

I foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment that empowers students to become confident, competent, and compassionate nursing professionals. My teaching emphasizes critical thinking, leadership development, and evidence-based practice to prepare students for the complexities of modern healthcare. I integrate real-world experiences and interdisciplinary perspectives to enhance engagement and deepen understanding. I model lifelong learning and professional integrity, encouraging students to lead with purpose while advancing patient outcomes and the nursing profession.

In 1922, six nurses founded Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, today known as Sigma, at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses, which is now the Indiana University School of Nursing, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The founders chose the name from the Greek words storgé, thárros, and timé, meaning love, courage, and honor.

American Association of Critical Care Nurses

The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) is the largest specialty nursing organization dedicated to advancing critical care nursing practice and supporting nurses in providing optimal care for critically ill patients.

Founded in 1969, the AACN represents over 100,000 nurses who specialize in caring for acutely and critically ill patients. The organization is committed to enhancing the professional development of its members through education, certification, advocacy, and community building.

The <b>CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)</b> certification is a specialty credential for nurses who provide direct care to acutely and critically ill adult patients. This certification is recognized by healthcare employers and signifies a nurse's advanced knowledge and skills in critical care nursing.

Nursing Informatics Board Certified (NI-BC), American Nurses Credentialing Center

The <b>NI-BC certification</b> is a specialized credential that validates a nurse's expertise in the field of informatics. This certification demonstrates the nurse's proficiency in integrating nursing science with information management and analytical sciences to improve patient care. It is crucial as healthcare increasingly relies on technology for data management, electronic health records (EHR), and decision support systems. The certification is valid for five years and requires renewal every five years. To maintain the certification, nurses must hold a current, active RN license and complete professional development activities related to informatics nursing.
Service Activities and Community Relations

At the University level, I currently serve on the School of Nursing Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (2025–present), contributing to curriculum review and ongoing program development to support student success, and I served on Pillar 4 of the University’s Strategic Planning Committee (2025), collaborating on initiatives focused on institutional growth and community engagement. Additionally, I served as a Faculty Marshal during the Centennial Graduate and Undergraduate Ceremonies (May 2026), supporting a key milestone event for the University. Professionally, I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Lambda Eta Chapter (2025–present), and have self-nominated to serve in the role of Counselor to support chapter initiatives and student engagement. Within the community, I serve on the Richard A. Henson YMCA Leadership Board (2025–present) and act as the Youth Summer Camp Healthcare Liaison, promoting health and safety practices for youth programming.
