Bio

Leslie Yarmo began teaching at SU in 2010 after establishing a successful career designing costumes for stage and screen. Ms. Yarmo teaches Costuming and Theatre Crafts, Costume Design, the History of Fashion and Architecture, and Makeup Design. In addition, she leads a unique study-abroad program, "A Day in the Life of Ancient Rome," in collaboration with Rome's Superintendent of Art and Culture.
Ms. Yarmo received her BA in Theatre Arts from UCLA and a dual MFA in Costume and Set Design from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Before teaching at SU, she taught in Rome, Italy's Academia Italiana di Design, and the SUNY Purchase College Theatre Design-Tech Conservatory. In addition to extensive theatre design from Off-Broadway to Opera, Leslie was the costume designer for the first three seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the feature film Carrie Pilby. Further experience includes work on Cadillac Records, I Am Legend, HBO's television series Rome, Homeland, the NBC mini-series Empire, and Ang Lee's Ice Storm. Before moving to Maryland, Ms. Yarmo lived and worked in New York City, Los Angeles, and Rome, Italy, where she continues to work in the film and television industry. Ms. Yarmo's primary focus, however, remains her teaching and mentoring of young designers and designing our mainstage productions at SU.
