Exercise Science Minor
Work out and work hard. In our exercise science program, you’ll learn about nutrition, kinesiology and exercise physiology so you can help others achieve and maintain good health. The academic foundation of exercise science is in physiology, bioenergetics, and movement anatomy and mechanics, with applications to exercise responses and adaptations, strength and conditioning, sport performance, and disease and injury.
Why Choose Exercise Science at SU?
The minor in exercise science consists of a minimum of 24 credit hours. Students must complete each course with a grade of C or better. SU requires that at least 15 of the hours are not used to satisfy General Education requirements, and at least nine of these hours must be earned at SU. Exercise science majors are not eligible to earn a minor in exercise science.
Students in the exercise science minor must complete the following required courses:
- EXSC 317 Nutrition, Health and Human Performance
- EXSC 333 Kinesiology
- EXSC 344 Exercise Physiology
Select 12 credits from the following:
- EXSC 213 Injury Prevention and Emergency Management
- EXSC 240 Fitness Testing
- EXSC 250 Strength Training Techniques and Program Design
- EXSC 462 Clinical Exercise Physiology
- EXSC 472 Stress Testing and Exercise Prescription
For a more in-depth study, SU also offers an exercise science major leading to professional certification through the American College of Sports Medicine or the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
