Requirements for Admission – Second Degree Bachelors of Science in Nursing Program
To help you set your success in motion at SU, we want to share the process to prepare for, apply to and be accepted into our Nursing Program:
- You’ve already completed the first step: being officially admitted to SU!
- Second, you must complete a separate School of Nursing admission application, outlined below. This step is a competitive process based on the evaluation of your overall qualifications by the School of Nursing Student Policies Committee. Please note, admission to the University does not guarantee acceptance to the Second-Degree Nursing Program.
Admissions Procedure:
All students are considered on a competitive and space-available basis. To be considered for admission to the Second Degree Nursing Program, you must:
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Generally, more competitive students have a minimum cumulative grade point average for previous academic work of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. International students must demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
- Show proof of completion of academic coursework, equivalent to SU courses, in: basic statistics, microbiology (with lab), anatomy and physiology I and II (all body systems, with labs), chemistry I (with lab), and pathophysiology (with lab). More competitive students earn grades of C or higher in these prerequisite courses. Pathophysiology must be completed with a grade of C or higher.
- Complete all prerequisite requirements no later than one month prior to the first day of class (failure to do so may result in the loss of a place in the fall cohort).
- Complete the Application for the Second-Degree Nursing Program directly in the Nursing Centralized Application Service (CAS) at www.nursingcas.org. First consideration for program acceptance will be given to applicants who have submitted required application materials in their entirety by January 15 prior to the fall start date.
- Visit the SU School of Nursing website for updated information: www.salisbury.edu/nursing
Decisions regarding acceptance into the Second Degree Nursing Program are generally communicated before the end of April prior to the fall start date. Applicants who are accepted to the program must complete all prerequisite courses prior to the start of the Nursing Program. In addition, official transcripts for coursework completed outside SU after program acceptance must be submitted to SU prior to the start of the Nursing Program to guarantee a seat in the program.
