Requirements for Admission - Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (B.A.S.W.)

To help you make tomorrow yours at SU, we share the process to prepare for, apply to and be accepted into our Social Work B.A.S.W. Program:

  • You’ve already completed the first step: being admitted to SU! Congratulations! You are now a pre-social work student at SU.
  • To become a student in the Social Work B.A.S.W. Program at SU, you must complete a separate approval/admission process to begin many of our social work courses, see admission details below. Admission to the University does not guarantee acceptance to the Social Work B.A.S.W. program.

Admissions Procedure:

To be considered for admission in the Social Work B.A.S.W. Program, current and prospective students must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Achieve first semester junior standing (approximately 60 credit hours).
  • Complete the following prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better by the end of the semester applying:
    • SOWK 200, SOWK 300 and SOWK 310
    • PSYC 101
    • MATH 155 or PHIL 103 or PSYC 220
    • ONE social issues or social configurations general education course (other than PSYC 101 or SOWK 200) 
  • Earn a total cumulative GPA of 2.5, including all courses taken for credit at any institution that are transferred into Salisbury University.
  • Earn a social work GPA of 2.7 including all prerequisite courses and any additional social work courses.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to engage in appropriate professional social work roles on and off campus by report from faculty members or peers. 
  • Complete an application to the B.A.S.W. program (fall only).

Additional Information:

If transferring to SU, it is recommended that social work coursework begin in the fall semester as social work prerequisite courses are typically only offered in the fall semester. 

SU requires the completion of a general education curriculum. SU cannot guartentee general education or non-social work prerequisite courses will be available online for those students choosing to complete the Online B.A.S.W. Program Option.
