Oral presentations are generally made in classrooms to a small audience using power point, notes, or a script, depending on the field of study. This year all oral presentations will be made in the Henson Building classrooms. Students will have approximately fifteen minutes to present their work and five minutes to take questions. The classrooms each have a computer with CD driver, Microsoft Office software, VCR and TV. Students may request any additional equipment needs when filling out the proposal submission form on the web. Students must arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of their assigned session to setup any audio-visual equipment and meet the session moderator and other presenters. Students must attend the entire session they are presenting in to provide support for fellow presenters.
Poster presentations are visual summaries of research enhanced by student explanations and experiences. This year, the poster session will take place in the Assembly Hall, Guerrieri Academic Commons from 6:00 - 7:30pm on the day of the conference. This room will be set up for the posters and refreshments. Students must arrive no later than 5:45 to set up their posters and are expected to be present for the full session.
Performing and visual art presentations include dance, music, theater and art performances which are accompanied with a summary of how the piece was developed, researched and/or designed. These may take place in one of the theaters and galleries across campus, within the Henson Science building along with the oral presentations, or along with the poster session. Art pieces may be displayed and explained along with other student posters while music exhibitions would add nicely to the poster session atmosphere as well.
Roundtable discussions include the presentation of research findings by a number of students that have researched a similar topic and are generally focused on a common theme. These presentations do not necessary follow the same format as the oral presentations since they can be formed of more than four participants. In general, the format is as follows: first the speakers summarize their findings for a pre-determined amount of time, then the moderator summarizes the findings, lastly the moderator opens the floor to audience involvement. Slots for these sessions are limited, depend on the availability of rooms, and will be made available at the discretion of the SUSRC committee.
