English as a Second Language at Salisbury University

About the English as a Second Language Concentration

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Concentration at Salisbury University exposes students to issues surrounding those acquiring English proficiency as second-language learners, both at home in the U.S. and throughout the world. The curriculum also supports learning foreign languages such as Spanish, French and German.

For those looking for a more in-depth study of English language acquisition, SU also offers a major in ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) designed to prepare educators in instructional and leadership roles in K-12 school settings. We also offer a minor in ESOL for those looking to pair their interest in language with another major.

Courses of Study

Students in the English as a Second Language Program have a varied program available to them, with courses including writing, diversity and foreign languages. Our students’ reach crosses cultural boundaries as they learn foreign languages offered through SU – such as Spanish, French or German. Our experienced faculty come from many countries, institutions and linguistic backgrounds and are dedicated to helping our students make a difference in the lives of future learners.
