Bio

Dr. Sarah Roth is the Program Executive for NASA's Lunar Commercial Relay and Navigation Systems program, where she advocates for the future of lunar communications infrastructure to advance NASA's exploration goals. She remains committed to educational outreach, mentoring students, and fostering the next generation of space explorers. Sarah holds a Doctorate in Engineering Management, a Master's in Chemical Engineering, and a Bachelor's in Music Education.

Research Interests

Research interests lie at the intersection of applied aerospace engineering, space policy, and engineering management, with a focus on large-scale technical systems. Prior and ongoing work includes materials engineering, scientific ballooning, lunar communications and navigation infrastructure, and systems integration. A secondary area of interest explores experiential and interdisciplinary approaches to STEM education, including accessible instructional design and the use of open educational resources.
Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy centers on experiential learning and systems thinking. I emphasize hands-on activities, applied problem-solving, and real-world case studies to help students connect theory to practice. I am committed to accessible course design and the use of open courseware, with the goal of supporting diverse learners and preparing students to apply foundational concepts in interdisciplinary and professional contexts.

SIX SIGMA focuses on reducing process variation and enhancing process control, LEAN drives out waste (nonvalue-added processes and procedures) and promotes work standardization and flow. The distinction between Six Sigma and lean has blurred, with the term lean Six Sigma (LSS) being used more often because process improvement often requires aspects of both approaches to attain positive results.
