My educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that academic libraries play a vital role in shaping students’ intellectual growth and overall college experience. Instructional librarians foster information literacy from the moment students arrive on campus through graduation, helping them develop the critical research, evaluation, and ethical information-use skills necessary for academic success and lifelong learning. Like critical thinking and quantitative reasoning, information literacy is a foundational competency that is most effective when intentionally integrated throughout the curriculum and reinforced across multiple learning experiences.
I am committed to advancing information literacy through collaborative program development and curricular partnerships that create meaningful, sustainable learning opportunities for students. At the same time, I recognize the importance of meeting immediate instructional needs and actively support a wide range of library instruction requests in alignment with the library’s mission, strategic priorities, and commitment to student success. My teaching practice is informed by the IDEA framework, emphasizing the identification of clear learning goals, the design of effective instructional strategies, active student engagement, and ongoing assessment to improve learning outcomes. Through reflective and evidence-based teaching, I strive to create inclusive, engaging learning environments that empower students to become confident, capable, and independent users of information.
