Introduces the teaching of language acquisition and literacy processes for education candidates. Includes language development, word recognition, vocabulary and comprehension through the integrated language arts of reading, writing, speaking, listening, visualizing and visually representing. Includes clinical experiences. Prerequisite: Admission to Professional Teacher Education Program. Early Childhood and Double Major Prerequisites: ECED 352, ELED 305/202, 317, 397. Introduces and applies formal and informal literacy assessment tools that can be used to make appropriate instructional decisions for learner differences. Includes information and practices in administering research-based intervention strategies for early literacy, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and writing.
