Analysis of the variety of class and rank structures found in both past and contemporary societies. Special attention focused on the determinants of social class as well as the related issues of social mobility and changes in class position of both individuals and groups. Additional emphasis on identifying both attitudinal and behavioral consequences of class position. Three hours per week with enhancement. Selected examples of the conflict between legality and social reality, with attention to both substantive and procedural issues of law; consideration of possible solutions.
