Work to Improve Lives

Master of Science in Applied Health Physiology

Physiology is the foundation upon which we build our knowledge of “life,” including how to treat disease. A career in applied health physiology (AHPH) will allow you to apply evidence-based best practice guidelines to individuals with their unique needs and medical conditions, feeling the satisfaction of knowing that you have improved their lives and future health.

Why Choose M.S. in Applied Health Physiology at SU?

The nationally recognized AHPH program at SU is extremely appealing to potential students. The curriculum at Salisbury University is designed to include the knowledge, skills and opportunities for practice that are essential for the development of health care and strength and fitness professionals. The program also fosters a strong commitment for every student to earn an appropriate professional credential. Students may choose from a credentialing focus within:

  • Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation (American College of Sports Medicine)
  • Fitness/wellness (American College of Sports Medicine)
  • Strength and conditioning (National Strength and Conditioning Association)

Additionally, every student participates in at least 500 hours of supervised internship in varied practice areas, such as:

  • Hospital cardiovascular/pulmonary rehabilitation departments
  • Private personal training facilities
  • University-based athletic performance activities

Our program has been awarded recognition as a graduate studies program by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The program has also made a commitment to seek accreditation at the master’s degree level by the Committee on Accreditation for Exercise Sciences (CoAES). Together, these two organizations help us focus on developing a quality academic experience that benefits the graduate.

The AHPH program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Applied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) within the exercise physiologist (clinical) domain. This accreditation represents our faculty’s commitment to academic quality and dedication to the profession.
