Technical Theater Academy
Students of all experience levels are welcome to Salisbury University’s Technical Theater Academy. The intensive two-week session introduces them to all levels of theater production. Topics include scenic, costume, lighting and sound design. Students build pieces and painting projects, and provide technical support for the final showcase performance at Third Friday in Downtown Salisbury.

Audience: Students entering grades 9-12
• Week one: July 6-10
• Week two: July 13-17
• Final showcase: July 18
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with the final showcase 5 to 7 p.m. July 17 and 2 p.m. July 18
Cost: $500 total

Participants in the technical theater academy will:
- Receive an introduction to all levels of the technical side of theater
- Improve their understanding of many aspects of theater production, including scenic, costume, lighting and sound design
- Build construction and painting pieces to be featured in the final showcase performance
- Receive live experience as they provide technical support for the final showcase performance
J. Michael Desper has spent more than 20 years working at theaters and universities all over the country, bringing his love of technical theater to groups ranging from 8 to 80 years old. A scene designer by training, he earned is M.F.A. from San Diego State University and his B.F.A. at the University of Oklahoma. He currently serves as the theater technical director for the SU Department of Music, Theater and Dance.
