Guerrieri Center Art Space Presents Works by Shannon Brooks November 1-November 30

mountains SALISBURY, MD---The Guerrieri University Center Art Space hosts the exhibit “2,280 Feet in the Air: Views from Chimney Rock State Park” by Salisbury University alumna Shannon Brooks through Sunday, November 30.

Brooks, from Carroll County, MD, earned her B.F.A. in art-graphic design from SU last May. Her focus is nature and the natural geometry of organic forms. In this instance, she was intrigued by the landscape of the North Carolina park.

“I firmly believe that true artists always have a driving force that pushes them to make their unique pieces,” she said. “I’ve found over the years that what drives me to make my work is my emotions.

“To me, emotion goes beyond something that you alone feel. It goes beyond just being sad or happy or angry.  It’s broad and complex; it’s curiosity, wanderlust, enchantment and amazement. Emotion is something that you can take and bring it into the physical realm, so that others can see it and feel it within themselves.

“When I’m creating my work, I focus on what emotion I’m trying to communicate to the viewer. Whatever emotion I’m trying to convey affects all of the technical decisions I make about the piece along with the medium I choose to use.”

The Art Space is located in the Guerrieri Center’s second-floor concourse. Admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6247 or visit the Art Space website at http://www.salisbury.edu/guc/artspace.
