Writers on the Shore Series Presents Tom Whalen April 20

SALISBURY, MD---Author Tom Whalen presents a poetry/fiction reading as part of the Writers on the Shore series on Thursday, April 20, in the Montgomery Room of the Commons at Salisbury State University. The presentation, at 8 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Whalen, described as a writer "... whose work cannot be missed" in the Dictionary of Literary Biography Yearbook, is a visiting professor at SSU. His books include Winter Coat (poems), Roithamer's Universe (novel) and Elongated Figures (fiction).

Whalen was director of the Creative Writing Program at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts for 22 years prior to becoming visiting writer in residence at Tulane (LA) University. "Whalen's work is thickly lyrical and meditative, interrogating the relation of language to things, of books to life," wrote The Review of Contemporary Fiction. The recipient of The Texas Review Press' Novella Prize in 1996, the Louisiana author has also served as visiting professor in American literature and film at Stuttgart University in Germany.
