Traffic Advisory Issued for Sea Gull Century Saturday, October 15

Traffic AdvisorySALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University has issued a traffic advisory for Saturday, October 15, as more than 8,000 cyclists are expected to participate in the 23rd Sea Gull Century bike ride.

Heavy bicycle traffic is anticipated near the SU campus from 7-9 a.m., especially at the starting line at the intersection of Bateman and Wayne streets. Bateman Street is closed to all vehicles from 6-10 a.m. South Division Street, between College Avenue and Milford Street, is only open to Sea Gull Century parking traffic during this time. Motorists may also want to avoid Milford and Wayne streets, and the round-about in Fruitland.

Throughout the day, three routes will take riders through Wicomico, Somerset and Worcester counties: the traditional 100-mile Assateague century, 100-mile Snow Hill century and 64-mile Princess Anne metric.

Riders will pass directly through the towns of Princess Anne, Snow Hill and Berlin. They will congregate at rest stops including Washington High School, Nassawango Golf Course, Whiton Crossing Road, Assateague Island State Park, Public Landing, Furnace Town and Powellville VFW.

Maryland State Police and local police will control the intersection of Route 12/Snow Hill Road at Route 354/Nassawango Road, and the intersections of Route 113 at Germantown Road and Route 376. Bicycle traffic is expected on Mount Herman Road in the afternoon.

Century coordinators encourage cyclists and motorists to exercise extra caution. The finish line and post-ride festivities are near SU’s Perdue and Henson halls. Bicycle traffic also will be heavy near campus from 3-6 p.m. All riders should be off the roads by dark.
