Third Season of 'Art: 21' Screened at SU this Fall

SALISBURY, MD---Contemporary art breaks out of the confines of museums and galleries and onto the campus of Salisbury University this fall, with screenings of the third season of the PBS series Art: 21–Art in the Twenty-First Century. Screenings are 6 p.m. on selected Tuesdays in Fulton Hall Room 111.

Focusing exclusively on contemporary art, intimate footage depicts some 16 American artists at work, including Cai Gui-Qiang, Leylah Ali and Krzysztof Wodiczko, among others. Transforming inspiration into art, they voice their thoughts while grappling with the physical and visual challenges of artistic creation.  Films are: 

• September 9: Power – Actor and comedian David Alan Grier explores how artists challenge authority, oppression and control. Each artist humanizes difficult issues by acting as a witness to violence, working to heal communities, or achieving a balance between constructive and destructive energies. 

• October 7: Memory – Actress Isabella Rossellini introduces artists who delve into personal memory and the past, transforming them in their process. 

• November 4: Structures – Actor Sam Waterston shows how artists create systems, shift contexts, and engage with perception, using unconventional devices such as exhibitions within exhibitions and dramatic shifts in scale between microcosm and macrocosm.

• December 2: Play – NBA star Grant Hill introduces artists who improvise games, draw inspiration from dance and music, and employ color, pattern, and movement to make statements about the nature of identity, creative expression and pleasure in their art.
