'The Wedding of Ordos' Comes to SU Saturday, January 18

The Wedding of OrdosSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University is hosting a wedding … and everyone’s invited!

The Ordos Song and Dance Theatre of China’s Inner Mongolia region presents its award-winning show The Wedding of Ordos 7 p.m. Saturday, January 18, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

The colorful production recreates the Ordos wedding ceremony, which originated in the 15th century. The show, first performed in 1992, shares the culture of Mongolian Ordos. Ceremonial representations include presenting the Hada for engagement, greeting the son-in-law, toasting, offering sheep and receiving the mother’s blessing.

The Wedding of Ordos and its individual dances have won multiple national Chinese cultural awards. The production also has earned critical acclaim in other countries throughout Asia, as well as parts of Europe. In the United States, a performance is scheduled at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
