Spanish Club Hosts Cinco de Mayo Celebration May 5

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Spanish Club celebrates Cinco de Mayo 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, May 5, on the Devilbiss Hall Mall. Cinco de Mayo commemorates May 5, 1862, the day a 4,500-member Mexican militia defeated the French Army in Puebla, Mexico, to halt France’s takeover of the Mexican Empire. Festivities include entertainment by disc jockey Joey Kappa, who plays a variety of music by Latin American and Spanish artists. An inflatable obstacle course and piñatas also are on hand. The SU Step Squad and Untouchables dance team perform. A Mexican buffet with taco salad, Mexican-style baked chicken, Mexican rice, quesadillas and churros with chocolate dipping sauce is provided. Admission to the buffet is $5. Raffle tickets for gift certificates to local restaurants, movies and music are available for $1. Rain location is the Wicomico Room.
