Bernstein Award Competitors Present Plans April 30

SALISBURY, MD---From bridal gowns to self storage, decorative glass to online retailing, this year’s Bernstein Achievement Award for Excellence finalists span both local businesses and a global venture. The winner walks away with $5,000. Established by Eastern Shore businessman Richard Bernstein, the competition seeks to further entrepreneurship among Salisbury University students. Competitors are judged on their ideas, their research and the feasibility of their business plans. Four proposals vie for prizes. Senior business management major Cindy Campbell of Salisbury hopes to make weddings easier with Blissfully Yours, a one-stop shop for brides. Junior business administration major Tim McFadden of Baltimore proposes a Baltimore-based glass blowing studio called Blown Away Glass Inc. The studio also would house a gallery and gift shop where patrons and tourists could watch unique art being formed. Eastern Shore Self Storage, the brainchild of M.B.A. student Brian Kilgore of Eden, MD, would place rental storage units in an underserved area. Senior biology major Sibtain Rawala of Salisbury provides the competition’s foray into e-tailing with his plan for Supplements Express.com, an online dietary supplement store. Finalists present their ideas from 2-5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in Holloway Hall Room 114, followed by the announcement of the winner. Refreshments will be served. The public is cordially invited.
