Small Appointed to Governor's Commission

SALISBURY, MD---Governor Parris Glendening recently appointed Salisbury State University History Professor Dr.  Clara Small to a commission to study the history and legacy of slavery in Maryland.

The Commission to Coordinate the Study, Commemoration and Impact of Slavery’s history and Legacy in Maryland is comprised of 11 members, seven of whom were appointed by Glendening.

The purpose of the commission is to network museum, and other sources relative to the history of slavery, develop initiatives to educate Maryland youth, acquire money to protect and monitor historic sites, keep the state informed on the latest research and how to support educational programs relating to slavery and collaborate with private and public tourist agencies.
