Romanian Poet Inaugurates Writers-On-The-Shore Series

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University begins its 2003-04 Writers-on-the-Shore series 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, in the Gull’s Nest at the Guerrieri University Center with a reading by Romanian poet Liliana Ursu.

Born in 1949 in the city of Sibiu in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania, the Bucharest resident has written several volumes of poetry, starting with Life Above the City in 1977.

An English translation of selected poems by Ursu appeared as The Sky Behind the Forest from Bloodaxe Books in 1997. Her most recent collection is entitled Port Angeles.

Sponsored by the SU English Department and Cultural Affairs Council, the reading is free and the public is cordially invited.
