Laura Thompson Thorpe Appointed Director of Admissions (September 10, 2004)

SALISBURY, MD---After eight months of serving as interim director of admissions at Salisbury University, Laura Thompson Thorpe has been named director of admissions under the dean of enrollment management.

Thorpe joined the Admissions Office in February 1998 following five years of teaching French in public high schools in Virginia and Maryland. While she served as admissions counselor and assistant dean of admissions, she was involved in international student recruitment and played an important part in marketing the University to the secondary school community, prospective students and their families. 

Thorpe has been instrumental in planning publications, including the first admissions CD Rom recruitment production and the flash recruitment video clip. In addition to her off-campus initiatives, she has participated in campus service as a facilitator for new student seminars and serves on several University committees.

She holds a Master of Education Administration from SU and a Bachelor of Arts in French with minors in education and drama and speech from Randolph-Macon College. She also earned a Certificat d’études from Université de Paris, Sorbonne, France. Her involvement in the local community includes serving as secretary for the Wicomico County Free Library Board of Trustees and membership with various educational, civic and religious organizations.
