Issues in LEP Program Development Institute To be Held on Campus July 10-20

SALISBURY, MD---The Bilingual Education Careers Program, a Title VII-funded project based at Salisbury State University sponsors a seven-day intensive institute, "Issues in LEP Program Development," on July 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18 and 20 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. daily.

Participants will learn about the TESOL Standards and other model curriculum frameworks and how to apply and adapt them to their instructional settings.  They will develop standards-based units of instruction, curricula and assessment practices that align with state and local expectations for LEP student achievement.

Nationally known presenters in the ESOL filed will be guest speakers/lecturers.  July 10 features ESOL state and county program supervisors from Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.  In addition, a book fair and instructional materials display with publisher-sponsored break-out sessions is scheduled for July 18.

Participants will be expected to attend the entire institute.  However, because of the nature of the program, administrators are encouraged to register separately for the July 10 program, "Administrators' Forum," if unable to attend the entire program.

The book fair and materials display, held at the Great Hall at Holloway Hall, will be open to the general public.  No registration will be necessary for that event.

Participants upon successful completion of the requirements will have the option of earning either three graduate or undergraduate credits at SSU or three Maryland Department of Education Continuing Professional Development credits.

Stipends of $100 each will be available to the first 20 institute registrants who do not register for college credit.  Since enrollment will be limited to 50 participants, early registration is encouraged. Delaware and Virginia continuing education credits will also be available.
