Harmon Earns Specialist in Hematology Certification

SALISBURY, MD---Shuna Harmon, a 1988 graduate of Salisbury University’s Clinical Lab Science/Medical Technology Program and resident of Lewes, DE, recently earned Specialist in Hematology certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

The certification requires passing a written exam and an appropriate number of years of experience with various types of hematological analysis. Only 2427 clinical laboratory scientists in the U.S. have earned this designation since its inception in 1968.

After graduation, Harmon joined the hematology section at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1998, she was named quality control lead technologist for hematology. She served in that capacity until she relocated to the Delmarva Peninsula and joined Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE.

“It’s virtually a given that all our graduates earn certification immediately after the bachelor degree. Shuna’s accomplishment is special because it shows her dedication to continued education and her competence in sophisticated clinical analysis long after her formal education was completed. The people of the Eastern Shore are fortunate that she decided to bring her expertise here, and we are very proud of her,” said Johanna Laird, program director of SU’s Clinical Laboratory Science Program.
