Celebrate Archaeology Month With Nabb Center"  

SALISBURY, MD---In recognition of Archaeology Month in Maryland, the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury State University is sponsoring two lectures offering interesting insights about the early settlers of colonial Maryland. 

On Thursday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m., Ed Otter, Ph.D. candidate in archaeology at Catholic University and a lecturer at SSU, discusses his ongoing research to locate archeological sites in Somerset County from the last half of the 17th century. His presentation features early results of a land tenure study and cursory field examination. 

On Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m. Dr. Timothy Riordan, chief archaeologist at Historic St. Mary’s City, presents a slide-illustrated talk “Life and Death in 17th Century Maryland: A View from the Chapel Field Cemetery at Historic St. Mary’s City, Maryland.” Excavations at the 17th century cemetery at St. Mary’s revealed a wealth of information about the lives of early settlers and speak to the development of our modern beliefs and mortuary rituals.
