Institute for Retired Persons Donates $2,600 to Nabb Research Center

SALISBURY, MD--The Institute for Retired Persons recently donated $2,600 to assist the educational programs of the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury State University. The donation will provide additional local historical records for the center and assist students in their research efforts in the field of Delmarva history.

Eleanor Mulligan, president of the IRP, said, "The Institute for Retired Persons is deeply impressed with the mission of the Nabb Research Center and its perseverance in keeping traditional Delmarva alive for future generations. The Nabb Center has a unique historical value for those of us who love the Shore and what it represents."

The Nabb Center is a non-profit organization gaining continued visibility through its outreach programs including frequent presentations by interested faculty and community members.

Edward H. Nabb challenged residents of the Eastern Shore to recognize the significant role the Nabb Center plays in providing a research repository where records of all types relating to Delmarva might be placed for scholarly study and preservation. The IRP gift was made in response to Nabbâs challenge.

The tri-state region (Virginia, Maryland and Delaware) has been a cultural and social unit from the 17th century. The Nabb Center is dedicated to preserving Delmarvaâs past for future generations. The restoration of the SSU graduate program in history, emphasizing Delmarva and the Chesapeake region, provides students a ready laboratory for the study of an area which holds the oldest continuous public records in British North America. The 300-plus years of public records are a microcosm of life in the growing colony--a rich, colorful, diverse population is being brought to life through scholarly research.

The Nabb Centerâs hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday.
