Kalanidhi Dance Company Performs at SU September 11

SALISBURY, MD---Members of the Kalanidhi Dance Company of Washington, D.C., perform Kuchipudi, one of India’s seven main classical dance styles, 7 p.m. Saturday, September 11 in the Holloway Hall Auditorium at Salisbury University.

The performance is part of SU’s “India and the Sub-Continent” fall cultural events series. Kuchipudi combines fast rhythms with fluid movements, creating a blend of control and abandon, strength and delicacy. Company members have been trained in the rigors of the classical form and use it to explore new and creative ways to connect with diverse audiences.

The New York Times calls Kalanidhi a “combination of bright energy, full-bodied sweetness and rapid precision.”  The Washington Post lands it as “deliciously graceful, yet rhythmically pungent.” The company has performed at venues including New York’s prestigious Joyce Theater, as well as the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.

Sponsored by The Office of Cultural Affairs and World Artists Experiences Inc., admission is free and the public is invited. For information call 410-543-6271 or visit the SU web site at www.salisbury.edu.
