Accounting & Legal Studies
The
Department of Accounting and Legal Studies is
responsible for all accounting and law courses which
comprise the Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree,
the Franklin P. Perdue School M.B.A. Program, the Minor
in Accounting and the introductory accounting and law
courses required of all management, marketing, finance,
and management information systems majors. In
addition, a number of students in non-business majors
take some of the department's courses as electives as
part of their degree programs.
The mission of the Department of
Accounting and Legal Studies is to:
- Provide Perdue School Accounting majors with a
solid foundation, in accounting theory and practice,
which will prepare them for successful careers as
financial professionals in Certified Public
Accounting firms, industry, government, and
not-for-profit organizations, as well as for related
post-graduate study.
- Place our graduates in the most challenging
professional positions for which they are qualified,
by developing relationships with professional public
accounting and financial management firms, as well
as government and not-for-profit organizations, and
in co-operation with the Career Services Office of
Salisbury University.
- Actively participate in recruiting the best
students for Salisbury University and the Perdue
School.
In order to accomplish this mission our Department is committed to:
- Provide all our students with a broad
understanding of business theory and practice.
- Provide Perdue School Accounting majors with a
solid foundation in accounting theory and practice
including: 1) Financial, Managerial, Cost,
International, and Governmental accounting; 2)
Accounting Information Systems; and 3) Auditing to
enable them to successfully complete the Uniform
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination.
- Prepare our accounting majors for successful
careers as financial professionals in Certified
Public Accounting firms, industry, government, and
not-for-profit organizations, as well as for related
post-graduate study.
- Provide our students with both a strong
foundation and understanding of the role community
service will play in their professional lives and
with opportunities for experiential learning through
community service components in appropriate courses
and internships.
