WSDL Hosts Discussion on Sussex County Development September 29

SALISBURY, MD---Sussex County, DE, still offers vistas of serene fields and peaceful, relaxed family beach resorts. But this calm way of life is being challenged in the 21st century by the residential and commercial development roaring through Delmarva.

As part of its continuing effort to provide an even-handed forum on development issues, Public Radio Delmarva (PRD) invites the public to join a live discussion on WSDL 90.7 FM at noon Friday, September 29.

Public access television PAC 14 will simulcast the discussion to cable subscribers in Wicomico County.

PRD News Director Don Rush takes calls during the discussion. His guest experts include:

Harvey Hyland, Sussex County Council Candidate
Bill McGowan, University of Delaware Extension.
Vance Phillips, Sussex County Councilman

“Development continues to be foremost among issues concerning the people of Delmarva,” said Rush. “Sussex County is growing at an astounding rate. We’re hoping to get a real dialog started – to foster a conversation that promotes expression of all views. Maybe we can even help build consensus.”

Rush is the recipient of two Associated Press awards this year.

“We can’t shrink from addressing the hard issues,” said General Manager Fred Marino. “It’s part of our mission to educate and inform the people of Delmarva. Public Radio Delmarva is the right place for the development debate.”

Public Radio Delmarva is two stations: WSCL at 89.5 FM and WSDL at 90.7 FM. Both stations operate from the campus of Salisbury University. WSCL 89.5 FM offers classical music, National Public Radio news and such popular public radio staples as Car Talk and A Prairie Home Companion on the weekends. WSDL 90.7 FM features a talk/news format, carrying NPR news, as well as nationally syndicated programs like The Diane Rehm Show, Fresh Air and Talk of the Nation.

Public Radio Delmarva began broadcasting May 29, 1987. Besides talk shows, planned 20th Anniversary Celebration events include recently-introduced Web streaming, co-sponsoring the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra’s Children’s Concert in October and presentation of the annual Celebration of Music in late spring, 2007.
