Students Present Research at Conference

SALISBURY, MD---Two Salisbury State University seniors, Melissa M. Moore and Jeremy V. White, presented their work, “Docosahexaenoic Acid in Cell Membranes: Fatal for Cancer and Vital for Fish,” at the 2001 meeting of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology held recently in Chicago. 

The research, under the supervision of Dr. E. Eugene Williams, assistant professor of biology in SSU’s Henson School of Science and Technology, describes how one omega-3 fatty acid is involved in reducing the spread of leukemia and is found in abundance in the tissues of cold-water fish. 

Moore, a 1997 graduate of Woodbridge High School, is the daughter of Benjamin and Patricia Moore of Bridgeville; and White, a 1997 graduate of  Wicomico High School, is the son of James White and Martha Culver of Salisbury. 

Conference travel expenses were supported by the SSU Foundation, Inc. and the Henson School of Science and Technology.
