ShoreCorps/PALS Gearing Up for Youth Service Day April 17

SALISBURY, MD---ShoreCorps/PALS (Partnership for Adolescents on the Lower Shore), an AmeriCorps Program at Salisbury University, participates in National Youth Service Day, the world’s largest service event, Saturday, April 17.

Mobilizing millions of young people to do community service in their community, National Youth Service Day gives young Americans the opportunity to become volunteers in their community and teach the community that youth are valuable citizens and future leaders.

ShoreCorps/PALS is leading the charge along with Salisbury’s Promise and ShoreCan Volunteer Center to recruit and manage youth volunteers on this day. Volunteers participate in an Earth Day project at the Salisbury Zoological Park, assist with the Holly Center’s Wake Up Garden and mend fences at Pemberton Park.

ShoreCorps/PALS has been part of SU for the past nine years, providing outreach to thousands of youth and adolescents on the Eastern Shore. A vast majority of ShoreCorps/PALS members are SU students. Many are residents of Salisbury and surrounding areas.

ShoreCorps/PALS’ mission is to serve at-risk youth and adolescents. Members do this through after-school and in-school programs such as mentoring and tutoring, conflict resolution training, parent and family support services, conducting community outreach activities and recruiting volunteers to support project activities. Goals include improving grades and life skills, reducing conflict and increasing volunteerism.
