SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Alumni Association welcomes four new members to its board of directors: Len Foxwell of Easton, MD; Jan Hastings Conway of Salisbury; Shauna Van Buren of Baltimore; and Lori Ward of Crisfield, MD.

Foxwell is a 1992 graduate of SU with a B.A. in political science. The deputy comptroller of Maryland, Foxwell previously served the SU community as assistant to the President for government and community relations. He also has been director of government relations for the Greater Washington Board of Trade and director of Washington-area transit programs for the Maryland Department of Transportation, and served as press secretary for the successful re-election campaign of Governor Parris Glendening and Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy-Townsend. Foxwell is a past member of SU’s Board of Visitors and remains an advisory board member for the University’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE). He lives in Easton with his wife, Kerry, and two children, Colleen and Darren.

The principal of Glen Avenue Elementary School in Salisbury, Conway earned her B.S. in elementary education from SU in 1965 and her Master of Education in 1973. She began her teaching career in Dover, DE, in 1966 before moving to the Wicomico County Public School System in 1966, where she has remained since. The wife of Maryland Delegate Norman H. Conway, she applauded SU’s years of service to the county: “SU has served my husband and me throughout our careers, and we recognize its position of leadership in our community and the lives of the youth of the state of Maryland.”

Earning her B.A. in political science from SU in 1999, Van Buren is the airport services manager for the U.S.O. of Metropolitan Washington, manging the daily operations of U.S.O. lounges at Andrews Air Force Base, Reagan National Airport and Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport. She also has served as a research analyst for the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and worked for the Las Vegas Valley Water District. While at SU, she interned with Delegate Conway in the Maryland General Assembly, fueling her passion for public policy, research and communications.

Ward earned her B.A. in social work from SU in 1996 and her Master of Social Work in 2003. The lead patient care coordinator and department head with the McCready Health Services Foundation, she also has performed social work for Peninsula Renal Care, the Deers Head Center and Waterview Healthcare Center in Salisbury, as well as the Somerset County Health Department in Westover, MD, and Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield. She has been an active member of the SU community since her graduation, attending social work and theatre reunions, as well as Homecoming activities.

“The Alumni Association Board of Directors is strengthened with the additions of Jan, Len, Lori and Shauna,” said Jason Curtin, director of alumni relations and annual giving. “Their backgrounds and experiences are very diverse, and I welcome their involvement to help shape the future of our programs offered to alumni.”
